Flat tyre? Don't worry. Here is a simple 5-step guide to fix it yourself at home using basic tools.
Tools You Need
- Tyre levers (or a flat spoon handle)
- Puncture patch kit (patches, glue, sandpaper)
- Air pump
- Water bowl (to find the leak)
Step 1: Remove the Wheel
Flip your cycle upside down (resting on saddle and handlebars). Loosen the nuts or quick-release lever and lift the wheel out. If it's the rear wheel, shift the chain to the smallest gear first.
Step 2: Remove the Tube
Use tyre levers to pry the tyre edge off the rim. Pull out the inner tube carefully.
Step 3: Find the Leak
Pump some air into the tube. Submerge it in a bowl of water section by section. Look for bubbles. Mark the spot with chalk or a pen.
Step 4: Patch It
Dry the tube. Roughen the area with sandpaper. Apply a thin layer of glue and wait 1 minute until it's tacky. Peel the foil off the patch and press it firmly over the hole for 2 minutes.
Step 5: Reassemble
Check the inside of the tyre for thorns or glass. Put the tube back in, tuck the tyre back onto the rim, and pump it up.
